This is where we make dvd copies, and labels, i spent a lot of time in that station.

This is the part where we make previews, from vhs to dvds and from dvds to dvds :P.

Another part of the Video Making process.

This one here is Chas! He's like the friendliest and the funniest guy u'll get to have as a co-worker, hes cool, patient and has a great personality =)

And finally my mentor Dorothy, she didn't really want me to take a picture of her but she finally agreed! :D

April's 1st daily post!

Tuesday:

I cant believe that time would fly so fast since we started internships, i have been here for 4 weeks now, and it seems as if i had started yesterday, i am glad of this internships opportunitties, i have also heard a lot of people complain, and so did i, but i dont complain to lose nor change my internship, i just want people to kow what we are passing through, and i think we all deserve recognition for that, THANKS TEACHERS!

Wednesday:

I did a little of shipping throught UPS, i learned how this system works, which impressed me, a guy at my dad's job does this, all day long it's all he does, and he gets paid more than my dad, only because "he knows about computers" well he hasn't been good at his job lately, and since i have learned this skill (which is basic to do his job) i will present myself on summer to take his place, i thank a lot to whoever thought of these internships, and to my co workers for teaching me so much.

Thursday:

I made some dvd copies and some previews, it was a fun day, the days i enjoy more are the one with a lot of work, because i feel helpful, and i get to use skills i hadn't put in practice before.

Midpoint Reflection Questions

How has the internship been the same as and/or different than your expectations?
well for the most part i feel like i have always been learning a lot more every and each day, from managing time to making different copies nd having responsabilities.

What is similar and different about the culture of the school environment versus the workplace environment? What new skills have you learned that apply to the workplace?
Time managment it's a very important skill that you will need, specially making your own time lines, otherwise no one it's going to be over yourself tellin you what to do at every single moment, which it's actually something good and bad, the good part it's that you will have to paste yourself to your own working time and the bad is that sometimes we need that person to be there "our teachers" telling us what to do, so it's a little bit of both.

What kind of relationship do you have with your mentor and co-workers? How have you grown as a result of interacting with professional adults?
I dont think i have grown being here, not that it hasn't helped, but i am very used to be around older people, being the youngest one in my family it's something you have to learn. I have been treated respectfully because i treat them the same way, so i think that our relationship as a group of workers is very close and tight, due to the fact that we all act like normal people. In school there is full of people running and yelling, it makes me mad, people are not supposed to be acting this way.

What challenges at the internship have you faced that you have overcome and how did you overcome them?
mmmmhhhh.... i am really used to challenges that i dont diferenciate them anymore, right now i think it would be a project, which i haven't been able to do because i have no people to interview, but hopefully miss sherien will take care of that.

What challenges have you faced in school as a result of the altered schedule and how are you handling them?
oh em geee.... where do i start? first of all i'm not complaining i think these internships are wonderfull but it has also gotten in the way of my homework and my grades have gone down by a lot, all because of homework. I almost fainted twice and there is nothing i can do about it, my mom is really concerned about my health lately because i haven't been eating good enough nor getting enough sleep. there is no way to handle it, i just have to keep pushing myself and i won't forfait.

What goals are you working to accomplish during the remainder of the internship?
well actually being here has helped me accomplish a lot, just by being surrounded by adults makes me feel like i'm in the right place, this is where i was meant to be, not around of immature people (at school).

What new things have you learned about New York City?
Not much, i mean i just wonder around sometimes, and i go to different stores when it's thursday, so yeah it's nice being in manhattan.

Third Week Internship Assignment

Describe one significant activity or project that you have completed or are working on currently.

The main project that i'm working on right now it's making a video about the elections. Only the teens decisions, it was hard because i had to shoot some interviews of students, i was thinking of shooting them at school but with these internships i have no time, its really hard, and my mates won't let me interview them :(. (still)

In these "elections" i will be looking at the people's decision and their ethnical background, since there are 2 important candidates which are Hillary and Barack, i will be able to see if their choice goes with their background or, maybe even gender.

i have done a lot of paperwork. I feel that this internship really is helping me. I am taking a lot of advantages of it, the people i'm currently working with are really friendly and i feel really comfortable around them. It's more than an internship, its a union.

So this is the biggest and first project i've got at my intership, i also watched a lot of videos that taught me a lot about political, social, and even musical issues; i watched a movie called "Afro-Punk" i just loved it, it talks about black people that are actually into the punk style, how they are discriminated, and the struggles they pass through being in a "mostly white genre".

Watching these documentals has inspired me into learning more about the Vietnam war, and what happened there... i have already studied most of WWII even before my internship started, i learned about Hitler, his actions and what's left of him as a legacy (Skinheads, Neo-Nazis, and many other groups that think white race it's the superior race).

Second Week Assignment

What did you do during your second week?

I watched very interesting documentals, and i was taught how to use new machines such as the cd printer, the cd copy machine and how to make previews, it is really interesting and it's something i didn't know how to do before.

How was it different than the first week?

It was full of new things to do, i kind of feel bad because i have a project to do that i cant finish because nobody would let meinterview them :(

What is something that you really like about the internship?

I like the people i work with, they explain me the stuff and i understand most of it, so far i haven't made a mistake! :D lol at least thats what i think.

What is something you dislike about the internship?

The only "problem" would be the distance between school to the internship and from the internship back home, but i think that every good thing comes with a sacrifice :)

Who else's blog have your read and commented on?

Kate, Pablo, Katrina, Marina, Giselle, and Columba's
